Founded in 2023, the Farmers Bag Farm School is dedicated to equipping small farmers across North Carolina with essential business and farm management skills. Our innovative program offers a blend of active, hands-on learning designed to address the unique challenges faced by small-scale farmers. Through our training, participants gain practical experience in grant writing, securing FSA and NRCS funding, and navigating cost-share opportunities—building a foundation for sustainable growth and resilience.
A core feature of the program is our business pitch competition, where farmers compete for cash incentives, showcasing their innovative ideas and business acumen. Each graduate also receives a growing contract with the local food bank, reinforcing a commitment to community and food security. Our first cohort of 10 farmers completed the program with impressive results, demonstrating the impact and value of tailored, skill-focused training. The Farmers Bag Farm School continues to cultivate the next generation of knowledgeable, resourceful, and community-focused farmers, ready to contribute to a stronger, more sustainable food system.
